How to Know If Your Phone Battery Needs Replacing
Fast drain, shutdowns, and swelling are clear signals. Here is how to tell if your phone battery needs replacing.
Common signs of a worn phone battery
The most obvious clue is rapid drain — you charge to 100% and hit 20% by lunchtime with normal use. Unexpected shutdowns at 30 or 40 percent, slow charging, and a battery health reading below 80% in settings also point to a cell that is past its best.
On iPhone, check Settings → Battery → Battery Health. Android users can look for battery care tools from Samsung, Google, or their manufacturer. If the phone flags a service message, battery replacement is usually the right fix.
When it is not just the battery
Sometimes poor battery life comes from a failing charging port, background apps, or a degraded cell after years of heavy use. That is why we run a free diagnostic before quoting. If the port is the culprit, charging port repair may solve the problem without swapping the battery.
Safety: swelling and heat
If the back cover lifts, the screen pushes up, or the phone gets hot on a normal charger, stop using it and seek service. Swollen lithium batteries are a safety risk. Our Norwich technicians can remove the cell safely and fit a replacement.
